Newsletter 10-21-11

Happy Friday! We had a GREAT week! Enjoy your weekend and get rested up for another great week!

The Week Ahead:

Religion: We will finish chapter four.

Math: We will continue with our Geometry unit throughout the week. We will work to complete lessons 3.5-3.8.
Please help your child stay on top of their math grade by checking Power School. Remember, the kids can correct any math assignment for full credit.

Reading: We have read to chapter 9 in our classroom novel, Where the Red Fern Grows. We will continue to read a chapter each day next week. The kids will be completing their Reading Log activities that help practice and strengthen comprehension skills.
**Book reports are due on Monday, October 31st! I really let the students have freedom when designing the lay-out of book reports. I am just asking to have it resemble a newspaper/magazine article. They can draw or print a picture.
We will be completing another Scholastic News Magazine.

English: We will be working on writing scary and mysterious stories. The kids will pick a mysterious picture and create a story for that picture.

Social Studies: We will begin chapter three over the early explorers.

Science:
We will continue to study weather next week. We will finally make barometers! The kids will also be reading Seymour Simon non-fiction weather books in literature circles and completing activities.

Vocabulary: Unit 5 was checked today. Unit 5 test will be on Friday.

FYI:
Red Ribbion Week: Next week. The theme is Dream, Succeed, Believe, Achieve.
Win q Smartboard for St. James: Read the school newsletter to see how we can win another Smartboard by just shopping at Hy-Vee!
CiCi’s Pizza Night: Thursday, October 27th.
Penny Carnival: Penny Carnival is on Friday. Please send a plastic sack for their goodies. Also, don't forget to send in your drink donation! Kids that attend another school are not allowed to come to the Penny Carnival.
No School 11-5: No school on Friday 11-4 because of teacher work day to set up for the auction.
Auction: The auction is on 11-5. Hope to see you there!

Table Talk Questions:
1.   How did you make a barometer?
2.  Ask your child about their mysterious story.
3.  What has your child learned about coon hunting from reading, Where the Red Fern Grows?
4.  Do you love your pet as much as Billy loves his dogs?

Enjoy your weekend!
