I hope you enjoyed the weekend with your family! It was quiet and relaxing for me!
We have a lot of exciting activities planned! This is the last full week of school before Thanksgiving Break, so we have a lot of things to do!
We have a lot of exciting activities planned! This is the last full week of school before Thanksgiving Break, so we have a lot of things to do!
The Week Ahead:
Religion:
We will finish chapter 5, The Attributes of God.
English/Writing:
We will be working on writing a poem based of the book, Momma, Where Are You From? The kids will be reading this poem to you during conferences.
Reading:
We finished Where the Red Fern Grows…And there were not very many dry eyes in the room! I hope that you had a chance to talk about the novel with your child. It was so fun to read the book with this class! They really enjoyed it. I know this will be a book that they will always remember! We will be taking the AR test tomorrow and finishing up with some cumulating activities. We will be watching the movie sometime next week…I know the kids are really excited for this!
On Friday, the kids wrote epitaphs on a gravestone for Old Dan and Little Ann. One that melted my heart was:
Here lies a piece of my heart.
SO PRECIOUS!
Here is a HILARIOUS video!! In, Where the Red Fern Grows, Billy whoops to his dogs when they find a coon.... So we had a "Coon Whooping Contest." Check out the video below to see who won...
Math:
We will be really diving into long division this week! The kids have been doing so great with the simple division that we started with last week. This week, we will be getting into longer division problems that involve decimals, money, and zeros in the quotient. They will also be completing the math boxes (not the lessons in the SMJ, just the math boxes) and the matching study link each night. There may be special instructions on the study links. The kids will know what they are to do.
Social Studies:
The kids are showing their personal best on their first research paper over an early explorer. One student actually said, “YES! We are working on note cards now. This is actually really fun!” I think they are enjoying the maturity that is involved in this project. The kids should have 40 note cards finished. I will be checking on Monday. By the end of the week, the kids will have to have all 80 cards finished. Then we can move on to actually writing the paper.
Vocabulary:
Unit 7 will be checked on Friday.
Science:
The kids will continue to fill out their weather logs.
We will finish up our weather unit by completing our packet.
FYI:
· Sign-ups for conferences will be out on Monday.
· Wednesday- Wendy’s Night
· Our coat-drive starts on Monday. It is a great time to clean out those closets for a great cause! See the school newsletter for details.
Table Talk Questions:
1. We talked about attributes of God and learned the definition of the word attributes. What are some positive attributes of your child?
2. Test your child on some LONG division problems! They will be experts!
***Did you miss 11-11-11 at 11:11 AM at the 11th second? WE DIDN'T! Check out a video of the kids making a wish!
Have an OUTSTANDING week!
